Washington, D.C. – House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) today delivered the following remarks during the Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security, and Investigations Subcommittee hearing on “Combating Crimes Against Children: Assessing the Legal Landscape.” Chairman Goodlatte: Thank you, Mr. Chairman. I am very pleased to take part in this important hearing on combating crimes against children. Much progress has been made over the past few decades in preventing, investigating, and prosecuting child exploitation crimes.

Washington, D.C. – On Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 2:00 p.m., the Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security, and Investigations Subcommittee will hold a hearing on “Combating Crimes Against Children: Assessing the Legal Landscape” to examine current laws pertaining to child exploitation and to assess ways they can be strengthened to better protect children. Over the past few decades, a number of laws to protect children have been enacted.

Washington, D.C. – House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) and Republican members of the House Judiciary Committee today sent a letter to Director James Comey calling on the FBI to follow all legitimate investigative leads regarding Russia’s alleged interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election, as well as leads regarding the mishandling of classified information.

Washington, D.C. – On Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at 10:00 a.m., the House Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing to examine Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), which is set to expire at the end of the year. FISA Section 702 is a statute that allows the government to target the communications, such as emails or phone calls, of foreigners outside of the United States in order to collect information on foreign terrorists seeking to harm the United States. The statute prohibits the government from targeting the communications of U.S.

The joint resolution is now headed to the President’s desk to be signed into law.
