Committee Internship Program

The Committee on the Judiciary’s internship program offers both undergraduate and law students an opportunity to learn about the important role that House committees play in the legislative process. The Committee has jurisdiction over a wide range of legislative and oversight issues which include constitutional amendments, litigation reform, patent and trademark law, federal criminal law, federal civil rights law, anti-terrorism, immigration, and naturalization law, and antitrust. 

The Committee considers internship and law clerk applications for fall, spring and summer sessionsInterested candidates should be aware that there is a Majority (Republican) and a Minority (Democrat) office within the committee. Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply to the office that most appropriately reflects their political views. Those interested in interning for the Minority, can find their contact information on their website.

Due Dates:  

All applications submitted by the deadline will be considered, but review occurs on a rolling basis, so earlier submissions are encouraged.

  • Fall Internships – June 19th at 11:59 PM ET.
  • Spring Internships – November 6th at 11:59 PM ET.
  • Summer Internships – March 12th at 11:59 PM ET.  

How to Apply: 

A completed application packet includes: 

  1. A current resume
  2. Three references
  3. A cover letter which introduces yourself and contains the following information:
    1. What session you are applying for
    2. Why you are interested in an internship with the Committee
    3. Your dates and hours of availability
    4. At least one paragraph explaining your political philosophy
    5. At least one paragraph explaining your views specifically on issues falling under the Committee’s jurisdiction
  4. A writing sample, 250- 300 words, detailing which Judiciary subcommittee you find the most interesting and why.

What are these options?
