Washington, D.C. - House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) delivered the following remarks during floor debate on H.R. 372, the Competitive Health Insurance Reform Act of 2017.Chairman Goodlatte: I rise today in support of a bill that will move us a step closer towards restoring healthy competition in the health insurance industry. Today, the health insurance industry is besieged by dwindling competition and skyrocketing premiums.

Chairman Goodlatte: The Department of Justice is comprised of approximately 40 components which together encompass a broad array of national security, law enforcement, and criminal justice responsibilities.

Washington, D.C. – House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) today issued the following statement on the Declined Detainer Outcome Report issued by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which found that numerous jurisdictions declined dozens of detainers for criminal aliens from January 28, 2017 to February 3, 2017:
“I applaud President Trump and Secretary Kelly for their commitment to end dangerous sanctuary policies and for their efforts to show the American people the recklessness of these policies.

Washington, D.C.— On Thursday, March 23, 2017, at 9:00 a.m., the Subcommittee on Regulatory Reform, Commercial and Antitrust Law will hold a hearing on the Financial Institution Bankruptcy Act of 2017 (FIBA).
FIBA is a product of the House Judiciary Committee’s long-standing oversight of our nation’s bankruptcy laws, as well as the Committee’s examination into improving the bankruptcy laws for the resolution of financial institutions. The legislation incorporates the recommendations of hearing witnesses, regulators and experts from three Committee hearings on the subject over the past two years.
