Washington, D.C. – House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) today delivered the following remarks during the Immigration and Border Security Subcommittee’s hearing on “Agricultural Guestworkers: Meeting the Growing Needs of American Agriculture.” Chairman Goodlatte: As former Chairman of the House Agriculture Committee, I have had the opportunity to learn first-hand what farmers face in dealing with the H-2A program. It is a costly, time-consuming, and flawed program.

Washington, D.C. – On Thursday, July 20, 2017 at 10:00 a.m., the Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security, and Investigations Subcommittee will hold a hearing titled, “Gangs in Our Communities: Drugs, Human Trafficking, and Violence.” According to a 2011 FBI gang assessment report, roughly 33,000 violent street gangs, motorcycle gangs, and prison gangs with about 1.4 million members are criminally active in the United States and Puerto Rico today. Gangs are expanding, evolving, and posing an increasing threat to communities nationwide.

Each year, employers using the H-2A program have to comply with a lengthy labor certification process that is slow and plagued with red tape.
