Washington, D.C. – House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) today delivered the following remarks during the House Judiciary Committee’s markup of the Combat Online Predators Act (H.R. 4203). Chairman Goodlatte: Every year, about 7.5 million people are stalked in the United States. Of these victims, 11 percent have been stalked for 5 years or more and 46 percent experience at least one unwanted contact per week.

Washington, D.C. – The House Judiciary Committee today approved by voice vote the Stopping Abusive Female Exploitation Act (H.R. 3317). This bill, introduced by Congressman Dave Trott (R-Mich.) and also known as the SAFE Act, prevents discrimination against women and young girls by increasing the maximum penalty for female genital mutilation. The Center for Disease Control estimates that at least half a million females in the United States have undergone genital mutilation or are at risk of having it done.

Chairman Goodlatte: The Stopping Abusive Female Exploitation Act, or SAFE Act,  addresses the internationally-recognized human rights violation of female genital mutilation (FGM).

Washington, D.C. – The House Judiciary Committee today approved by voice vote the Protecting Religiously Affiliated Institutions Act (H.R. 1730). This bipartisan bill, introduced by Congressman David Kustoff (R-Tenn.), protects religious institutions and centers from threats and acts of violence. According to the Anti-Defamation League, the number of anti-Semitic incidents in the United States skyrocketed by 86 percent in the first three months of this year, including vandalism incidents, cemetery desecrations, and numerous bomb threats against community centers.
