Washington, D.C. - On Thursday at 10:00 a.m., the Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet Subcommittee will hold a hearing on H.R. 1123, the Unlocking Consumer Choice and Wireless Competition Act. This legislation restores the exemption, enacted by the Copyright Office, to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) that permits consumers to unlock their cell phones without the approval of their wireless provider. The exemption was allowed to expire for cell phones purchased after January 26, 2013.
