Washington, D.C. – House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) today issued the following statement condemning the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia:
“I am deeply saddened and revolted by the hate and violence taking place in Charlottesville, and am praying for the victim killed and others injured. The racist and anti-Semitic views embraced by white supremacists have no place in our nation and do not reflect core American values of equality and religious freedom.

“The opioid epidemic currently plaguing the United States is destroying lives, families, and communities across the United States and it shows no signs of stopping. We have all heard the grim statistics: 91 Americans die each day from an opioid overdose. That is more than 33,000 a year. These people are our neighbors, friends, and loved ones and need our help.
