Washington, D.C. -- House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) released this statement following House passage of the omnibus spending package, which includes the Clarifying Lawful Overseas Use of Data (CLOUD) Act (H.R. 4943).
“For the past several weeks, I have worked with Members and leaders in the House and Senate of both parties, as well as the Department of Justice, to attempt to reach a consensus on the CLOUD Act, which will allow law enforcement to share data with our friends and partners in other nations, and thereby combat serious crime and terrorism.

Washington, D.C. - On Tuesday, March 20, 2018, the Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security, and Investigations Subcommittee held a hearing on “Preventing Violence in America: An Examination of Law Enforcement Information Sharing and Misguided Public Policy.” Witnesses at this hearing discussed lapses in information sharing between local and federal law enforcement, as well as public policy guidance that limits the ability of law enforcement officers to enforce the law and prevent violent crimes.

Washington, D.C. - Yesterday, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) appeared on “Sunday Morning Futures” on Fox News to discuss the firing of former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe and renew the call for a second special counsel to investigate inconsistencies in decisions made by the Department of justice in 2016.
“I think the Attorney General did the right thing. It was the appropriate decision given the reports of his having leaked internal information to the media and then giving false information about that misleading information to those investigating the matter.
