Washington, D.C. -- On Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 10:00 a.m., Director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Andrei Iancu will testify before the House Judiciary Committee at an oversight hearing of the Patent and Trademark Office.  USPTO is the government agency that grants patents and registers trademarks for American inventions and innovations. The hearing will examine the general function of the Patent and Trademark Office, including examining USPTO’s use of its fee setting authority and whether current law is working as intended to prevent fee diversion.

Washington, D.C. – The House Judiciary Committee today approved by voice vote the Protecting Officers of the Law in Civilian Establishments Act of 2017 (H.R. 2561), the POLICE Act. This bill, authored by Congressman Trey Hollingsworth (R-Ind.), improves current law to ensure law enforcement officers have the ability to protect themselves. Attacks against police officers continue to rise across the country. For instance, in July 2016, police officers in Dallas, Texas were ambushed and fired upon, resulting in the death of five police officers and injuring another nine. Ten days later, six police officers were shot in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Washington, D.C. – In an op-ed in The Washington Times, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) and Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) call on the Department of Homeland Security to finalize regulations that would reform the investor visa green card program. Congress created this program over a quarter century ago to bring entrepreneurial talent to the United States, create new jobs and infuse new capital into our economy, especially in hard-hit rural and depressed areas.

The measure passed by a vote of 52-47.
