Chairman Goodlatte: I support H.R. 3009, the “Enforce the Law for Sanctuary Cities Act” and commend Representative Hunter for introducing this legislation. It helps to address one of the main factors contributing to the collapse of immigration enforcement in the United States – “sanctuary cities” that prohibit their law enforcement officers from sharing information with federal immigration authorities to enable the removal of unlawful and criminal aliens.

Washington, D.C. – Today, the House Judiciary Committee’s Immigration and Border Security Subcommittee held a hearing on “Sanctuary Cities: A Threat to Public Safety.” At the hearing, Jim Steinle, the father of Kate Steinle, testified, as well as Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones, Jessica Vaughan, the Director of Policy Studies at the Center for Immigration Studies, and Dayton Chief of Police Richard Biehl.

Washington, D.C. – The House of Representatives today approved by a vote of 241-179 the Enforce the Law for Sanctuary Cities Act (H.R. 3009). This bill withholds several federal grants from states or localities that refuse to comply with federal immigration enforcement efforts and threaten the safety of their communities. Washington, D.C. – House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) and Ranking Member John Conyers (D-Mich.) today announced the next step in the House Judiciary Committee’s ongoing review of U.S. copyright law.  The Committee has issued joint invitations to all prior witnesses of the Committee’s copyright review hearings to meet with Committee staff and provide additional input on copyright policy issues.
