Washington, D.C. – On the first day of the 115th Congress, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) introduced two balanced budget constitutional amendments in the U.S. House of Representatives. Chairman Goodlatte has introduced balanced budget amendments every Congress since the 110th Congress. H.J. Res. 1 is a four-part balanced budget amendment.

Washington, D.C. – The House of Representatives today approved Kevin and Avonte’s Law (H.R. 4919) by a vote of 346-66 to help protect children with autism and individuals with Alzheimer’s from wandering. Kevin and Avonte’s Law is named in honor of two boys with autism, Kevin Curtis and Avonte Oquendo, who both wandered away from supervision and tragically drowned.

Washington, D.C. – The House of Representatives today amended and approved the Emmett Till Unsolved Civil Rights Crimes Reauthorization Act (S. 2854) by voice vote to extend a critical program that helps investigate and prosecute Civil Rights era crimes. In 2008, the Emmett Till Unsolved Civil Rights Crime Act was signed into law by President George W. Bush to create a structured effort to investigate and prosecute racially-motivated crimes committed decades ago.
