Washington, D.C. -- House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) today delivered the following remarks during the Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet Subcommittee's hearing on "Sovereign Immunity and the Intellectual Property System".
Chairman Goodlatte: Sovereign immunity is a legal doctrine that has existed since the beginning of our Republic. It is a privilege of sovereign entities, such as state governments and Native American tribes, which are responsible for the well-being of those they govern.

Washington, D.C. – Today in The Hill, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) makes the case in an op-ed for ending the Diversity Visa Program. Last week, Sayfullo Saipov, an immigrant from Uzbekistan who came to the United States in 2010 through the Diversity Visa Program, plowed a rental truck into people using a bicycle path near One World Trade Center on Halloween, killing eight and injuring another 11 people.

Washington, D.C. – On Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at 10:00 a.m., the House Judiciary Committee will hold an oversight hearing on the Department of Justice where Attorney General Jeff Sessions will testify. Established in 1870, the Department of Justice and its component agencies are tasked with enforcing the law and defending the interests of the United States, promoting public safety and preventing crime, and ensuring the fair and impartial administration of justice.

Washington, D.C. – On Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at 10:00 AM, the House Judiciary Committee will hold a full committee hearing entitled “Examining Anti-Semitism on College Campuses.”
This hearing will explore the nature of anti-Semitism on college campuses, how existing federal civil rights laws address harassment based on anti-Semitism, and what impact additional legislation would have on freedom of speech, student relations, and academic freedom.

Washington, D.C. – The House Judiciary Committee today approved by voice vote the Combat Online PredatorsAct (H.R. 4203). This bill, introduced by Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.), protects children by combating the stalking and cyberstalking of minors. The Combat Online Predators Act increases the maximum term of imprisonment by up to five years for the most serious forms of stalking and cyberstalking of a minor.

Washington, D.C. – House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) today delivered the following remarks during the House Judiciary Committee’s markup of the Combat Online Predators Act (H.R. 4203).
Chairman Goodlatte: Every year, about 7.5 million people are stalked in the United States. Of these victims, 11 percent have been stalked for 5 years or more and 46 percent experience at least one unwanted contact per week.
