Subcommittee to Hold Hearing on Updates to U.S. Copyright Law
Washington, D.C. - Tomorrow at 3:30 p.m., the Courts, Intellectual Property and the Internet Subcommittee will hold a hearing entitled “The Register’s Call for Updates to U.S. Copyright Law.” This hearing will examine the recent recommendations made by the Register of Copyrights to update U.S. copyright law.
On March 4, 2013, the Register of Copyrights, Maria Pallante, delivered an address entitled “The Next Great Copyright Act” at Columbia Law School. In her speech, the Register recommended commencing a comprehensive review of U.S. copyright law. Register Pallante will testify before the Committee at tomorrow’s hearing.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) and Courts, Intellectual Property and the Internet Subcommittee Chairman Howard Coble (R-N.C.) released the following statements in advance of Wednesday’s hearing.
Chairman Goodlatte: “Tomorrow’s hearing will allow members of the Judiciary Committee the opportunity to thoroughly examine Register Pallante’s recent recommendations regarding the state of U.S. copyright law.”
Subcommittee Chairman Coble: “Register Pallante’s testimony is welcomed. Wednesday’s hearing will provide insights into the enormity of this task and the vexing obstacles that would accompany it.”
