Smith: President Should Create Jobs for American Workers - Not Illegal Immigrants
Washington, D.C. - The Administration’s announcement that they will review removal proceedings of illegal immigrants may strike another blow to 24 million unemployed or underemployed Americans. The Administration’s policy could allow hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants to receive work authorization. Those illegal immigrants would then compete with Americans for jobs. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) issued the following statement regarding the announcement.
Chairman Smith: “The President’s decision could mean jobs - but not for unemployed Americans. This potential massive backdoor amnesty to illegal immigrants could instead allow illegal immigrants to receive work authorization and could put more Americans on the unemployment rolls.
“The Obama administration is putting the interests of illegal immigrants ahead of American workers. Since he doesn’t have the votes in Congress, the President is trying to change immigration policy through Administrative actions.
“Unfortunately, this week’s announcement is just further proof the Administration is siding with illegal immigrants - not the American people.”
