Respect Law and Order, Don't Undermine It

Washington, DC - Ranking Member Lamar Smith (R-TX) issued the following in response to a news conference today in San Antonio supporting amnesty and opposing Arizona’s immigration enforcement law.

Ranking Member Smith:  “The Obama administration’s failure to secure the border leaves states to address the crime, job loss and other costs of illegal immigration. 

“Every state has unique needs.  The residents of Arizona know best how to deal with human smuggling, drug trafficking, kidnapping and thousands of deaths within sight of the border.  We should appreciate their efforts, not criticize them.  Texans should respect Arizona’s decisions just as we expect Arizonans to respect ours.

“Comprehensive immigration reform, or amnesty for millions of people who have broken our immigration laws, will only encourage more illegal immigration.

“We need to respect law and order, not undermine it.”
