Regulatory Reform Subcommittee to Hold Third Hearing on the State of Competition in the Health Care Marketplace
November 10, 2015
Washington, D.C. — On Tuesday, November 17, 2015, at 3:00 p.m., the Subcommittee on Regulatory Reform, Commercial and Antitrust Law will hold its third hearing on the state of competition in the health care marketplace entitled, “The State of Competition in the Pharmacy Benefit Manager and Pharmacy Marketplaces.”
Collectively, pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) administer prescription drug benefits for more than 247 million Americans, or approximately 95% of Americans who receive drug benefits. Pharmacies typically are the companies that directly engage with patients when they receive prescription drugs. Accordingly, PBMs and pharmacies play a critical role in the provision and delivery of prescription drugs to consumers. The hearing will examine the state of competition and any related competitive issues in these two important health care markets. This will be the third hearing in the series of Subcommittee hearings on competition in the health care marketplace.
The witnesses for Tuesday’s hearing will be:
- Ms. Amy Bricker, R.Ph., Vice President of Retail Contracting & Strategy, Express Scripts;
- Mr. David A. Balto, Esq., Law Offices of David Balto;
- Ms. Natalie A. Pons, Esq., Senior Vice President and Assistant General Counsel, CVS Health; and
- Mr. Bradley J. Arthur, R.Ph., Owner, Black Rock Pharmacy.
