IP Subcommittee to Hold Hearing on International Digital Trade

Washington, D.C. – On Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at 1:00 p.m., the Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet Subcommittee will hold a hearing titled International Data Flows: Promoting Digital Trade in the 21^st Century.  The hearing will examine international data flows, restrictions placed by foreign countries, and their economic implications. Witnesses for Tuesday’s hearing are:

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) and Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet Subcommittee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) issued the following statement on Tuesday’s hearing. “Our modern economy relies on the efficient and reliable movement of data across borders.  Just a few weeks ago a European court struck down the fifteen year old safe harbor pact between the U.S. and the European Union, which allowed the safe transfer of data between the U.S. and European countries. This court decision translates into uncertainty for thousands of American companies doing business in Europe, which could have a ripple effect on our economy.  Next week’s hearing will be an opportunity for Members to examine digital trade issues including the economic and policy implications of barriers to digital trade.”  Tuesday’s hearing will take place in 2141 Rayburn House Office Building and will be webcast live at /.
