House Judiciary Committee to Hold DOJ Oversight Hearing

Washington, D.C. — On Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at 10:00 a.m., Attorney General Loretta Lynch will testify before the House Judiciary Committee at an oversight hearing of the Department of Justice (DOJ). This is Attorney General Lynch’s first appearance before the Committee in her capacity as our nation’s top law enforcement officer. Established in 1870, the Department of Justice is the central agency for the enforcement of the United States’ federal laws. Below is a statement from House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) on next week’s DOJ oversight hearing. Chairman Goodlatte: “At next week’s oversight hearing, members of the House Judiciary Committee will examine several issues facing the Justice Department, including the implementation of the USA Freedom Act, efforts to reform the criminal justice system, the release of thousands of federal inmates – including serious violent criminals – as a result of the Sentencing Commission’s changes to drug sentencing guidelines, and technological advances and their impact on law enforcement activities. “Additionally, we will seek information about the disturbing politicization of the Justice Department under the Obama Administration, including officials at the Justice Department using mortgage settlements to funnel money to third-party activist groups. We will also continue to insist that the Department investigate Planned Parenthood for potential violations of the Partial-Birth Abortion Act. “I look forward to hearing from Attorney General Lynch and learning more about how the Justice Department is addressing these important issues.” This hearing will take place in 2141 Rayburn House Office Building and will be webcast live at /.
