Nelson Mandela said, “there can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way in which it treats its children.”
Every child deserves to have a safe childhood.
But sadly, this is not the case for too many of our nation’s kids.
In past years, we’ve made remarkable progress in preventing, investigating, and prosecuting crimes against children.
But more can and must be done to address these terrible crimes, especially as predators exploit advances made in technology to hurt kids.
Together, we have introduced several bipartisan bills to protect children and punish those who abuse them.
These bills go after child sex offenders and combat child pornography.
They will help ensure that child sex trafficking victims are treated the same as any other children.
They strengthen background checks for youth-serving organizations and fight global sex tourism.
The bills provide additional resources to protect children from harm and bring perpetrators to justice.
Children are among the most vulnerable and innocent among us and deserve the highest protection of the law.
Together, we can and must fight child abuse and exploitation.
