Goodlatte Releases Statement on Government Monitoring of Phone Records
June 6, 2013
Washington, D.C. - House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) today issued this statement regarding the news that the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) has been monitoring the phone records for millions of Americans.
Chairman Goodlatte: “The House Judiciary Committee takes this kind of action very seriously and so we will be looking into the details of this case very closely. I am very concerned that the Department of Justice may have abused the intent of the law and we will investigate that and whether the law needs to be changed as a result. Furthermore, we will raise this issue with FBI Director Mueller when he appears next week before the House Judiciary Committee for an oversight hearing.”
