Goodlatte Praises Senator Rob Portman and Senator Heidi Heitkamp’s Introduction of Major Regulatory Reform Legislation
April 26, 2017
Washington, D.C.— House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) issued the following statement in support of Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) and Sen. Heidi Heitkamp’s (D-N.D.) introduction of the Regulatory Accountability Act of 2017.
“For years, regulatory reform leaders in both the House and the Senate have been fighting for changes that will eliminate unnecessary regulatory burdens while producing smart, efficient rules of the road without high costs that so often harm hardworking Americans. Congress and the White House have made it clear to the American people that one of the biggest keys to faster and stronger growth of our economy should be reform of our runaway regulatory state.“Senator Portman and Senator Heitkamp have been champions with me in identifying 21st century regulatory reforms that can prevent the undue negative impacts regulations are having on our economy and modernize the rulemaking process to help the American people. It is a pleasure to have them leading the charge in the Senate to pass the Regulatory Accountability Act, which has already passed the House with bipartisan support.”Background: Introduced by Chairman Goodlatte, the Regulatory Accountability Act of 2017 (title I of H.R. 5) passed the House of Representatives in January by a bipartisan vote of 238-183. The Regulatory Accountability Act of 2017 is a strong, bipartisan reform to solve the problem of overreaching, ill-considered, insufficiently checked-and-balanced federal regulation. It has already passed the House with bipartisan support in previous Congresses.
