Goodlatte Praises House Passage of Updates to the U.S. Code

Promotes Transparency for the American PeopleWashington, D.C. — House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) released the following statement following the passage of a series of bills that reflect recent updates to the United States Code undertaken by the Office of the Law Revision Counsel. The legislation, which would provide necessary updates to laws governing Congress, national security, and voting and elections, were passed by the House of Representatives by voice vote.
“The United States Code is constantly changing, which requires periodic updates. The updates made to the U.S. code by the bills the House passed today will ensure our laws, and the citations contained within them, are accurate, up-to-date, and easily accessible by our citizens."Background: The House Judiciary Committee has jurisdiction over the revision and codification of Federal statutes and regularly endeavors to advance legislation prepared and submitted to it by the Office of the Law Revision counsel, which is responsible for maintaining and publishing the United States Code. Below is a description of the bills the House passed today.
- H.R. 2830 updates statutory references in laws governing the United States Congress.
- H.R. 2831 updates the U.S. Code citations in the National Security Act of 1947, the Central Intelligence Agency Act of 1949, the National Security Agency Act of 1959, and other related statutes.
- H.R. 2832 updates statutory references to our nation’s voting and election laws.
