Goodlatte, Marino, Ratcliffe, Grassley, Hatch, and Lee to Speak at Heritage Foundation Event on Reforming the Chevron Doctrine

Washington, D.C. – House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), along with Regulatory Reform, Commercial and Antitrust Law Subcommittee Chairman Tom Marino (R-Pa.), House Judiciary Committee member John Ratcliffe (R-Texas), Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), and Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah), will speak on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at 1:00 PM EST at the Heritage Foundation’s event entitled, “Should the Chevron Doctrine Be Abandoned or Modified?” Members of the House and Senate will deliver a series of speeches on the consequences of the Chevron deference jurisprudence; what Chevron deference has done to reshape the administrative state; and what Congress can do in order to reduce the adverse impact Chevron is having on Congress as well as the courts.

Background: Since the Supreme Court’s ruling in Chevron, there has been increasing confusion in the courts, Congress, the legal bar, and legal academia on the issues of whether, when and how courts should defer to federal agencies’ interpretations of the statutes they administer. Thursday’s event will focus on these issues, and specific ideas for solutions to the confusion spawned byChevron.
