Crime Subcommittee to Hold Hearing on Efforts to Reduce Crime Among Youth

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgOQ43MT-Io Washington, D.C. – On Thursday, June 22, 2017 at 10:00 a.m., the Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security, and Investigations Subcommittee will hold a hearing titled, “Juvenile Justice Reform in the Modern Era.”  The hearing will examine current practices in the juvenile justice system, different approaches states are using to address juvenile contact with the criminal justice system, and ways to prevent crime among youth. Witnesses for the hearing are:

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) issued the statement below in advance of this hearing. Chairman Goodlatte: “Our children are our nation’s future and we must take steps to reduce crime among youth. It is in our country’s interest to see juvenile offenders leave behind a life of criminality and become productive citizens. It’s important for states and communities to develop and implement effective prevention and intervention programs to improve the juvenile justice system so that it protects public safety, holds justice-involved youth appropriately accountable, and provides treatment and rehabilitative services tailored to the needs of youth and their families.
