Collins statement on DHS OIG report regarding overcrowded processing center

May 31, 2019
WASHINGTON — Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.), Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, released the following statement after the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of the Inspector General report called for action to address overcrowding at the El Paso Del Norte Processing Center. “The overcrowding at this El Paso facility is a result of Democrats’ refusal to address the crisis at our southern border. Thousands of migrants will continue to cross into to the U.S. illegally if Congress does not close policy loopholes that encourage them to break our laws.“While I was at this facility earlier this week, I saw this overcrowding firsthand, and I also watched Border Patrol Agents doing everything in their power to help migrants. Though overworked and low on resources, these agents are heroes. Republicans have legislative solutions that would address the national security and humanitarian crisis on the table, but Democrats prefer to let the crisis rage.”
