House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte welcomed five new Republican members to the House Judiciary Committee for the 114th Congress. For the next five weeks, we will profile each new member.

Prior to his election to represent Michigan's Eighth Congressional District, Rep. Mike Bishop served as Michigan’s Senate Majority Leader. While in the Senate, Rep. Bishop sponsored legislation that improved the lives of children and families across Michigan, including the Image removed.creation of the Michigan Child Protection Registry and the Michigan Identity Theft Protection Act. He also served two terms in the Michigan House of Representatives.

Rep. Bishop also worked as Chief Legal Officer for International Bancard Corporation and taught at Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Before government service, he was a private attorney representing families, small business and local governments.

Rep. Bishop received his J.D. from the Michigan State University College of Law and earned his bachelor’s degree, with honors, from the University of Michigan. He is a graduate of Rochester Adams High School and is raising his three kids with his wife, Cristina, in Rochester, Michigan.

On the House Judiciary Committee, Rep. Bishop serves on the Subcommittees on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security; and Regulatory Reform, Commercial and Antitrust Law.

Congressman Mike Bishop: “As a new member of Congress, it’s an honor to serve on the Committee on the Judiciary. I dealt with a wide area of the committee’s jurisdiction as a private attorney, and continued to do so as a member of the Michigan Senate’s Judiciary Committee. I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to address issues that deliver real solutions to our families and businesses.”
