Democratic Virtual Roundtable on ICE's Response to COVID-19

On May 13th at 12:30 PM EST, House Democrats held a virtual roundtable on the inadequate response by Immigration and Customs and Enforcement (ICE) to the COVID-19 pandemic and current conditions in ICE detention.

On March 13, 2020, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) requested information from ICE regarding measures taken to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in detention facilities. On April 7, 2020, Chairman Nadler and Subcommittee on Immigration and Citizenship Chair Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) sent a follow-up letter requesting ICE take more aggressive measures to combat the spread of COVID-19 in detention facilities, including release of individuals who pose no threat to public safety or national security. The Committee received no response to either letter.

In addition to Chairman Nadler and Subcommittee Chair Lofgren, Reps. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), J. Louis Correa (D-CA), Sylvia R. Garcia (D-TX), Joe Neguse (D-CO), Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D-FL), Veronica Escobar (D-TX), Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX), and Mary Gay Scanlon (D-PA) participated in the roundtable.
