Dems Still Focused on the Past

Washington, D.C. – House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Lamar Smith (R-Texas) today issued the following statement in response to Democrats’ release of Committee testimony by Judge Jay Bybee.

Ranking Member Smith: “I appreciate Judge Bybee’s thorough effort to be truthful and forthcoming in answering all questions presented by the Judiciary Committee. Unfortunately, Democrats in Congress would rather criticize Bush administration policies that kept America safe than prevent future terrorist attacks.

“Since President Obama took office, there have been three serious terror attempts on U.S. soil; one cost the lives of 13 innocent citizens.  And yet Judiciary Democrats have shown no interest in fixing the national security failures of this Administration.

“The Christmas Day and Times Square bomber attempts were not thwarted by intelligence gathering.  They were unsuccessful because of poorly made bombs and citizens who acted quickly.  But our national security policy must rely on more than dumb terrorists and smart citizens.

“Unfortunately, Democrats in Congress would rather criticize the past than develop policies that will protect us in the future.”
