WASHINGTON, D.C. - The House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Federal Government Surveillance will hold a hearing on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. ET. The hearing, "Foreign Influence on Americans' Data Through the CLOUD Act," will explore the ramifications of the data access agreement between the United States and the United Kingdom under the Clarifying Lawful Overseas Use of Data (CLOUD) Act and identify areas of potential reform. It will also examine the UK's secret order that requires Apple to build a back door into its products to allow access to all Apple users' content uploaded to the company's cloud, including encrypted content, and detail the importance of encryption for security and privacy.
